Custom Vitamin Boxes: Size, Label Space & Sample Checks
13. 10 月, 2026By Esion Package Editorial Team Technical review: Esion Packaging Engineering Team Last updated: October 13, 2026
A custom vitamin box is the paperboard outer box that holds a bottle, jar, pouch or set of containers. It has to fit the container, leave enough clean space for the product information, and stay consistent from the first sample to the bulk order.
At Dongguan Esion Packaging Co., Ltd. (Esion Package), we cover the paper box only. The bottle, closure, filling, formulation and label compliance are separate requirements and are not part of a paper box quotation.
This guide explains how to confirm the container, choose a structure, plan label space, check the sample and prepare an RFQ. By the end, you can use the checklist to send a clearer brief to your supplier.
What Should You Confirm About the Container First?
Start with the physical container, not the tablet count. A “60-count” or “120-count” bottle can come in several different bottle sizes, so the count tells you nothing about the box dimensions.
| Container | What to measure | Common fit problem |
|---|---|---|
| Bottle | Widest diameter, full height including cap, shoulder shape | Cap height or shoulder catches the box opening |
| Jar | Diameter, height, lid shape | Box too tight to insert and remove by hand |
| Pouch / stand-up bag | Filled width, thickness, height | Excess movement, or a bulging pouch pushing the walls out |
| Several containers | Final arrangement and removal space | Containers touch each other or can’t be pulled out cleanly |
Measure the actual filled and capped container. If a seal, shrink band or neck label adds thickness, include it.
The internal size of the box comes first. The outer size follows from the internal size, the board thickness and the structure, so the two should not be treated as interchangeable.
Which Box Structure Suits Vitamin Products?
For a single bottle or jar sold at retail, a folding carton is usually the practical starting point. It ships flat, prints well and is quick to pack. Our Paper Boxes collection shows the folding and rigid options we make.
A rigid or magnetic structure makes more sense when the product is a gift set, a multi-bottle regimen or a premium line where the opening experience is part of the product. For those projects, see our Rigid Gift Boxes and the Magnetic Gift Box guide.
| Situation | Structure to consider |
|---|---|
| Single bottle or jar, retail shelf | Folding carton |
| Gift set or multi-bottle set | Rigid or magnetic box with insert |
| Monthly or subscription set | Rigid or folding box, with the outer shipping carton planned together |
| Premium line with a presentation focus | Rigid box |
A premium look does not require the most complex construction. A well-proportioned folding carton with accurate printing often serves a single-bottle product better than a heavier box with extra components.
How Much Label Space Do You Need?
Plan the product information before the artwork, because required text decides how much space is left for design. For a dietary supplement sold in the U.S., the FDA’s Dietary Supplement Labeling Guide covers items such as the statement of identity, net quantity, the Supplement Facts panel, the ingredient list and the name and place of business. The guide is non-binding guidance, and requirements differ by market, so confirm what applies with your regulatory advisor.
Esion Package prints the artwork you approve. We do not review claims or label content for compliance.
For the box itself, plan these points before the design is final:
- Supplement Facts and ingredient panels: reserve a flat panel large enough for the required type size, rather than fitting it into leftover space.
- Small text: check it at actual size on a printed sample, not on screen.
- Lot and date areas: decide whether they are printed on the box, stamped later or applied by label, and keep that area clear of foil, embossing or heavy varnish.
- Folds and glue flaps: keep text away from fold lines, tuck areas and glued areas.
- Barcode: keep it on a flat area with enough contrast and quiet space, and test-scan the sample.

Which Paperboard, Print and Finish Work for Vitamin Boxes?
Choose the board, print method and finish together, because each one changes the others. Board grade and thickness depend on the box size, container weight and structure, so we confirm them per project at quotation rather than applying one fixed specification.
| Option | What it does | Vitamin-box note |
|---|---|---|
| Lamination (matte or gloss) | Changes surface feel and scuff resistance | Test with the artwork. Dark flat colors can show handling marks on some surfaces. |
| Foil stamping | Highlights a logo or brand name | Use on the logo, not on the Supplement Facts panel or small text. |
| Spot UV | Adds local gloss contrast | Keep it off regulatory text and barcode areas. |
| Embossing | Adds texture to a logo or graphic | Keep it away from folds and printed information. |
Lamination can protect the surface of the box from handling, but it should not be described as moisture protection for the product. The container provides that barrier, not the paper box.
Does the Box Need an Insert?
Not always. A single bottle that already fits securely usually does not need one. An insert adds cost and packing time, so it should earn its place.
An insert is worth considering when:
- several bottles or vials go into one box;
- the container shape is irregular or it moves noticeably;
- the set needs a fixed display arrangement.
Design the insert around the actual container and the packing process. Check that the container can be loaded and removed easily and that the insert stays in place. For an example of a printed box with an EVA insert, see our UV Printed Gift Box with EVA Insert.

What Changes for Retail Shelf vs E-Commerce?
Retail prioritizes the shelf presentation, while e-commerce adds shipping movement and the outer shipping carton.
| Consideration | Retail shelf | E-commerce / subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Front panel and brand impact | High priority | Important |
| Container movement in the box | Important | High priority |
| Outer shipping carton | Often separate | Plan it with the box |
| Box rigidity | Depends on position | Review for parcel handling |
| Stacking and storage | Shelf-ready cartons | Cartons and flat storage |
For direct-to-consumer projects, the vitamin box should be reviewed together with its outer shipping configuration. Our Corrugated Boxes collection covers the shipping carton side.
What Can a Paper Box Do for Child-Resistant and Tamper-Evident Needs?
A paper outer box does not make a container child-resistant. Child-resistant performance generally comes from the container and closure, so it is outside a paper box quotation. If your product or market has child-resistant requirements, confirm them with your compliance advisor and your container supplier.
Tamper evidence is a separate question. Some retailers and marketplaces ask for a visible seal on the carton. Where that is required, a glued closure or a seal label can be added to the packaging specification. Confirm the exact requirement with your buyer first, then include it in the RFQ. Our Custom Logo Stickers for Packaging can be specified as seal labels where suitable.
What Should You Check on the Sample?
Approve the physical sample with the real container, not only the artwork file. A printed proof cannot show how the assembled box fits, closes and reads on a shelf.
- Fit: insert and remove the actual filled, capped container without force, and check that it does not shift noticeably.
- Closing: the box should close and stay closed. Check tuck tension or the lid.
- Fold and glue areas: inspect edges, corners and glued joints.
- Text legibility: read the smallest text and scan the barcode on the sample.
- Finish vs information: confirm foil, spot UV or embossing does not interfere with the required text.
- Color: compare against the approved reference, in daylight and under store lighting. A screen preview is not a color reference.
- Carton fit: if the box goes into an outer carton, check that fit too.
After approval, the sample and written specification are the reference for bulk production. Any later change to dimensions, artwork, board or finish should be documented and approved, not introduced informally.
What Should EU-Bound Brands Consider?
For EU-bound projects, include the destination market in your RFQ so packaging requirements can be considered during development. As of October 2026, Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste generally applies from 12 August 2026, with some provisions phased in later. You can review it on EUR-Lex.
How Does Esion Package Support Vitamin Box Projects?
We handle the paper box from structure and sampling through production and quality inspection. Our process covers cutting, printing, laminating, die cutting, gluing, handmade assembly, QC inspection and packing. See our Quality page for how we check production.
Production Reference
As of October 2026, our general MOQ is 1,000 pieces. A pre-production sample typically takes about 3 working days once the sample fee, materials and design are confirmed. Bulk production is planned at about 15 days after approval. Projects with highly customized inserts or several structural components may need additional development time.
FSC-certified board can be specified for projects that require it, subject to the availability and certification status of the materials used for the specific project.

FAQ
Do vitamin boxes need to be child-resistant?
A paper outer box does not make a container child-resistant. That performance generally depends on the container and closure. Confirm your market’s requirements with your compliance advisor and container supplier.
Can a paper box protect vitamins from moisture?
The primary container provides the moisture barrier. A paper box with lamination can resist surface handling, but it should not be treated as moisture protection for the product.
Do custom vitamin boxes need an insert?
Not always. A single bottle that fits securely usually does not. Multi-bottle sets, vials and irregular containers often do.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom vitamin boxes?
As of October 2026, our general MOQ is 1,000 pieces. The final quotation depends on structure, size, materials and finishing.
What information do I need for a vitamin box quote?
Container dimensions, container type and quantity per box, preferred structure, artwork, finishes, insert and seal needs, order quantity, destination market and delivery date. Use the RFQ checklist above to prepare the brief.
