Custom Golf Gift Boxes: Size, Insert & Sample Guide
19. 10 月, 2026By Esion Package Editorial Team Technical review: Esion Packaging Engineering Team Last updated: October 19, 2026
A custom golf gift box is a rigid or paperboard presentation box built around a fixed set of golf items, usually golf balls plus small accessories such as tees, ball markers, divot tools, gloves or a towel. The box only works if the items stay in place when it is opened, tilted and shipped. This guide covers golf ball and accessory sets for corporate gifts, pro shop gift sets and tournament giveaways. It does not cover boxes for golf clubs, headcovers, shoes or bags, which are different products with different size and shipping requirements.
At Dongguan Esion Packaging Co., Ltd., we review golf gift box projects in this order: item dimensions, structure, insert layout, branding, then sampling. The sections below follow that order, with a production timeline for Q4 2026 and the 2027 golf season at the end. For a broader look at box types, see our Rigid Gift Boxes collection.
What Goes Into a Golf Gift Set?
Most golf gift sets combine one hero item with several small pieces. Typical contents are a sleeve of three golf balls or a dozen balls, tees, ball markers, a divot tool, a glove or towel, and a printed card.
Golf balls and loose accessories are the main design problem. Balls roll, tees scatter, and soft goods such as gloves and towels compress. A single open compartment handles none of these well, so the item list should be fixed before a structure is chosen.
Single-Item Box or Multi-Item Gift Set?
A box for golf balls only needs consistent cavity spacing. A multi-item set needs separate zones so that balls, accessories and the card do not compete for the same space. A typical tournament set might hold three balls, one ball marker and a printed card: the balls go in fitted cavities, the marker in a shallow slot and the card in a flat recess under the lid.
How Weight Changes the Box
Golf balls are dense for their size. Three balls plus metal accessories add noticeable weight to a small box. Heavier sets need a firmer base and a closure that stays shut when the box is lifted, while lighter sets need tighter cavities so that items do not shift.
Golf Item Dimensions and Weight
Measure the actual products before choosing any box size. Standard golf ball specifications give a reliable starting point.
| Item | Reference dimension | What it means for the box |
|---|---|---|
| Golf ball | Diameter not less than 42.67 mm (1.680 in); weight not more than 45.93 g (1.620 oz), per R&A / USGA equipment rules | Plan cavities around about 43 mm, then confirm with your actual ball |
| Three balls in a row | About 128 mm of ball diameter (3 × 42.67 mm) before walls and gaps | Sets the minimum internal length for a three-ball layout |
| Golf tee | Commonly about 54 mm, 70 mm (2¾ in) or 83 mm (3¼ in) | Needs its own narrow slot or pouch so tees do not scatter |
| Ball marker, divot tool | Varies by design | Measure the full size including any protruding parts |
| Glove, towel | Varies; compressible | Reserve flat, open space rather than a tight cavity |
A simple example: three balls in a row take about 128 mm. Add inner walls of, for example, 5 mm between and at each end of the row, and the internal length is about 148 mm before any clearance. Actual wall thickness depends on the insert material and is confirmed in the sample.

Which Structure Fits Which Golf Gift?
Structure should follow how the gift is used, not how it looks in a catalog. The table below matches common golf gift scenarios to structures we produce. Each structure has its own detailed guide.
| Golf gift scenario | Structure to consider | Why it fits | Detailed guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive or VIP gift set with several items | Magnetic gift box | Hinged lid, magnetic closure and a controlled opening order | Magnetic Gift Box Guide |
| Pro shop or club gift set with a removable lid | Two-piece rigid setup box | Separate lid and base, simple and firm | Two-Piece Rigid Setup Box |
| Slim balls-and-tees set that slides out | Drawer box | Sleeve and tray open like a drawer | Drawer Box Packaging |
| Large tournament order with limited storage | Collapsible rigid box | Folds flat for storage and shipping, then sets up | Collapsible Rigid Box |
| Book-style gift with a connected lid | Hinged gift box | Lid stays attached to the base | Hinged Gift Box Guide |
Magnetic describes the closure, while two-piece, drawer and hinged describe the box construction. A collapsible rigid box is not the same as a folding carton: it keeps rigid board walls and folds only for storage. If you are unsure which one suits a project, start from storage space and the number of sets, then compare structures.

The best option is not necessarily the most expensive one. A gift handed directly to a recipient at an event can justify a more premium opening experience. A few hundred sets that must be stored and distributed may be better served by a structure that saves space.
Insert Layout for Balls, Tees and Soft Goods
The insert decides whether the set survives handling. Common insert materials include EVA, sponge, corrugated paper and special paper. Our Jewelry Box Insert Guide compares these materials in detail; the golf-specific points are below.
- Ball cavities: A cavity that is too shallow lets a ball roll out when the box is tilted. A common starting point is a depth of at least half the ball diameter (about 21 mm), then adjust in sampling.
- Tees and small accessories: Give them a narrow slot, a small compartment or a paper pouch. Loose tees move around and scratch other items.
- Gloves and towels: Folded soft goods compress, so leave open, flat space and do not size the cavity to the uncompressed fold.
- Ball markers with magnets: If a marker contains a magnet and the box has a magnetic closure, check in the sample whether the marker is pulled toward the closure and keep the two apart in the layout.
- Finger access: Add finger notches or pull tabs so recipients can lift balls and accessories out without damaging the insert.
Branding a Golf Gift Box
Keep the lid logo clean and use golf-specific details for variation. For recurring events, fix the logo and brand color and let the event name or year change from one edition to the next. Co-branded sets can combine the box logo with logo-printed balls; note that printing on the balls themselves is done by the ball supplier and is separate from the box artwork.
Finishes such as matte or gloss lamination, foil stamping and embossing are covered in our Drawer Box Customization guide, and the full approval route is in our sample to mass production guide. Confirm finish effects on a physical sample, not on a screen preview.
Tournament Order Timeline for Q4 2026 and the 2027 Season
Golf gift orders cluster around year-end corporate gifting, pre-season orders in early 2027 and spring and summer events. Plan backwards from the date the boxes must be in hand.
| Step | Typical timing |
|---|---|
| Spec, dimensions and artwork finalized | Before quotation |
| Pre-sample (standard structures) | About 3 working days |
| Sample review and approval | Your side; allow extra time if revisions are needed |
| Mass production | About 15 days after approval |
| Shipping | Air about 5–7 days; sea about 25–35 days, plus customs |
Illustrative example: if a sample is approved and the order is confirmed on October 30, 2026, production ends around November 14. Air freight would arrive around November 19–21, while sea freight would arrive around December 9–19, before customs and local delivery. Treat this as a planning example, since lead times change with structure, printing and quantity.
Two further dates matter for 2027: Lunar New Year (February 6, 2027), when factory schedules slow down, and Father’s Day in the United States (June 20, 2027). Place season-opener orders before the holiday period.
Sample Checks and Production Reference
Test the sample with the real products, not stand-ins.
- Close and reopen the box several times and check the closure and lid fit.
- Tilt the box on every side and confirm the balls do not roll out of their cavities.
- Shake lightly and check that tees, markers and the card stay in their slots.
- Lift each item out using the finger notches and check for insert damage.
- Check logo position, color and finish against the approved artwork.
- If the set will be shipped, test it in its outer carton under the intended transport conditions.
Production reference (as of October 2026):
| Item | Reference |
|---|---|
| General MOQ | 1,000 pcs |
| Pre-production sample (standard structures) | About 3 working days |
| Mass production | About 15 days after sample approval |
FSC-certified materials can be requested for eligible projects. Final MOQ, lead time and price depend on structure, printing, insert and quantity, and are confirmed in the quotation. If the boxes will be sold in the EU, include the packaging regulation requirements in your brief; see our other guides for the compliance notes we use.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Golf Gift Boxes
How do I size a box for three golf balls?
Three balls in a row take about 128 mm of ball diameter (3 × 42.67 mm). Add insert walls and clearance to get the internal length, then confirm it with a physical sample.
Which box structure is best for corporate golf gifts?
Magnetic gift boxes suit executive sets, two-piece rigid boxes suit pro shop sets, and collapsible rigid boxes suit large tournament orders where storage space is limited.
Can a golf gift box hold balls, tees and a glove together?
Yes, if the insert separates them: fitted cavities for balls, a slot or pouch for tees and open flat space for soft goods.
Will a magnetic ball marker affect a magnetic gift box?
It can. Keep magnetic markers away from the closure magnets in the layout and check this in the sample.
What is the minimum order quantity?
The general MOQ is 1,000 pcs as of October 2026. Final quantities are confirmed in the quotation.
